Southport gets the chance to taste over 250 wines from around the world at Wine Fest 2009.
Visitors will have the chance to taste more than 250 wines from around the world when the town’s second annual wine festival takes place later in the week.
David Smith, owner of Portland Wine Cellars will bring Wine Fest 2009 to the Floral Hall on Wednesday and Thursday (July 1 & 2).
David, who has been in the wine industry for nearly 35 years, is keen to make wine an enjoyable experience.
“Many people are scared of wine,” he said.
“What we are trying to do is educate them in a nice way to the sorts of wine they may enjoy.
“The aim is to open people’s tastebuds and eyes to the different grape varieties from around the world.”
David, 61, added that he is a big fan of Rioja and even has his car number plate with the letters on!
“I’ve been to Spain to the bodegas or wineries a few times to see how it is all produced.
“We have around 270 wines on offer and the idea is for people to try as many as they like and if they like them they can buy some.”
The Wine Fest 2009 is on Wednesday and Thursday (July 1 and 2) from 2pm to 8.30pm at Southport Floral Hall. For more details about Wine Fest 2009 visit www.portlandwines.com or call 01704-534299.
