Manchester City Council has called time on Britannia Hotels, owner of the London Road fire station. The meeting of the council’s executive today will receive a report asking for authorisation to make a Compulsory Purchase Order at the site, which has stood empty since Britannia vacated it eight years ago. Although plans put forward in the last few years no longer remain on the table, the site is strategically important to the city’s hopes to create a major civil service hub at the Mayfield site.
