Pub giant JD Wetherspoon are investing almost £1m in a new Golden Mile pub.

The nationwide chain revealed plans to convert the former Pricebusters site – situated next to Blackpool Tower – into its latest Fylde coast outlet.

The company, which has more than 700 pubs nationally and was granted a drinks licence for the Blackpool premises in May 2008, aims to have the as-yet unnamed pub open for the summer.

No on-site or opening date has been confirmed, but the purchase was completed earlier this week on the 3,100 sq ft ground floor property.

The development cost is currently estimated at £830,000 and will create around 40 new jobs.

Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “We are pleased to have purchased the former Pricebusters site and are looking forward to reopening it as a Wetherspoon pub.

“We have enjoyed great success with our existing pub in Blackpool – The Auctioneer on Lytham Road – and the new pub will complement it and we believe be a great asset to the town.”
