Hotels and B&Bs in Windermere and Bowness are top in the UK when it comes to getting five star reviews from guests on TripAdvisor - says new research.
Figures revealed at the annual general meeting of tourism trade association the Lakes Hospitality Association, show the two Lake District resorts are attracting more five star reviews from guests than any other destination in the UK.
TripAdvisor, the world’s leading travel review website, allows visitors to rate their stay from one to five stars from value, location, rooms, cleanliness, service and sleep quality.
Jonathan Denby, Chairman of the Lakes Hospitality Association, said: “These statistics show that hotels in Windermere and B&Bs in Bowness have been independently ranked as the best in the UK by the most important people of all – the visitors.”
“This is clear evidence the Lake District is setting the standard and should give visitors confidence that this is the best place to stay this summer.”
Across the whole of the UK, Bowness achieved the highest share of satisfaction ratings for its B&Bs with 22.4% being given a five star review by guests.
Windermere’s hotels get the highest number of five star reviews on TripAdvisor with a 21.5% share – the largest in the UK. Places like Loch Lomond get just 1.9% of five star reviews for B&Bs and 13.7% for its hotels.
Less than 1% of London’s 1141 hotels have been given a five star rating on Trip Advisor, and its B&Bs get just 2.46 % of five star awards.
Cumbria’s “rural destination rivals” Devon and Cornwall also lag behind the Lake District.
TripAdvisor official Alistair MacGregor was guest speaker at the association’s AGM that took place at The Belsfield Hotel in Bowness.
